Logos Bible Software Story
After eleven years of medical training, I found myself right back where I had started: Broke, thousands of dollars in debt, no car, no cell phone, no job, and living with my parents. How could all this happen to a medical specialist who had trained and graduated from some of the top universities in North America?
I had completed my medical residency training at UCLA, but when my educational visa forced me to return back to my native country of Canada I didn’t qualify for a medical license, meaning I couldn’t practise medicine in any regard.
Through a rather odd series of events at a very discouraging time in my life, God placed the desire in my heart to write a non-fiction book series. The problem was, I had never written a book before and because I was living in a small town in central Ontario Canada, I didn’t have access to very many reference or theology books. And I didn’t have thousands of dollars to build an extensive library either.
My passion was to write a book series that would take the reader on a 21-century tailored journey into understanding the character of almighty God. But I knew that if I wanted to complete the extensive project before my ninetieth birthday, I had to find a powerful and efficient Bible software program. After carefully researching all the software available, I chose the Libronix Digital Library System from Logos.
I couldn’t believe how fast I could move through the Bible! There was no flipping through hundreds of pages in thick books to find the answer I needed. Now all I had to do was simply click on a reference, another click on a commentary, another click on ‘word study guide’ and another click on the original Greek or Hebrew word. Now I had instant access to the same resources used by the greatest theologians in the world.
Over the course of my five year sabbatical from medicine I wrote twelve books on God’s character that included hundreds of verses, each of which I had carefully studied with my Logos Bible Software. The books included with the software were theologically sound – dictionaries, commentaries, topical textbooks – all of which I could trust, and all of which I could afford. Without the help of Logos, I would still be writing this series today!
The Logos Bible Software program helped this unemployed medical doctor and first time author (with no formal theological training) secure a four book contract with the respected American publisher, Cook Communications. The first four books were published simultaneously in July 2006 under the series title, “An MD Examines”, and because the Logos Bible Software allowed me the time to focus on carefully studying each verse, instead of flipping through pages just to find the verse, the books earned me the respect from many theologians, including the President and President Emeritus of Tyndale University College and Seminary, both of whom endorsed my book series. Thank you Logos for putting together such a valuable Bible software program unlike any other!
Sincerely,
Brad Burke,
MD Author of the book series, “An MD Examines”
